PHNOM PENH (15 January 2016) – A Workshop on Business and Human Rights and Request of Provisional Release, co-organized by the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia (BAKC) and OHCHR, was conducted on 15 January. During one session, participants heard experiences from the ECCC and other international tribunals on the request of provisional release. The principle of presumption of innocence was highlighted as key to ensuring that provisional detention is used as an exceptional measure. As well, lawyers were encouraged to propose alternative measures to judges, incorporating international human rights standards. The workshop ended with closing remarks from the chief of OHCHR's Rule of Law unit, Ms. Claudia de la Fuente. See the workshop agenda in English | Khmer.
