GENEVA (19 April 2017) – The United Nations human rights office has just opened to the public a database containing the direct communications to governments about human rights concerns, including urgent appeals and allegation letters, sent by the UN human rights mechanisms and the replies to them issued since 2011. It replaces the thrice-yearly public reports issued for the UN Human Rights Council listing the communications issued by those regular intervals. A simple search for "Cambodia" reveals the original text of the communications sent by the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Cambodia and other mechanisms on the "Adhoc 5," the entry ban against Sam Rainsy, the Kem Ley murder, threats against and arrests of environmental and other civil society activists, among others.
