10 December 2008 - Today, on International Human Rights Day, Cambodians joined the rest of the world in celebrating sixty years since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the General Assembly on 10 December 1948. In a press statement (english | khmer), the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pilay, recalled the historic visionary nature of the Declaration which lies at the root of all United Nations human rights action. The Declaration was incorporated directly into Cambodian law in 1993 by virtue of Article 31 of the Constitution. The United Nations in Cambodia mark the day by participating in events with representatives of the Government and civil society. The day will end with a Cultural Celebration at the Chaktomuk Theatre in Phnom Penh.
