29 August 2014- The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Cambodia co-organized a briefing session with the Ministry of Interior on rights upon arrest and use of force for senior police officials on 29 August 2014 in Phnom Penh.
The briefing focused mainly on the contents and the purpose of the Arrest Rights Card. This Card was developed and designed by OHCHR and the Ministries of Interior and Justice, and explains in simple language what rights people should enjoy upon arrest. The briefing was also an opportunity to present the United Nations Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials, as well as the United Nations Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officials.
A total of more than 80 Judicial police officers from the Central Department in charge of judicial police, the Directors of Department in charge of judicial police at the General-Commissariat of National Police and from the Phnom Penh municipal police commissariat, as well police commissioners and deputy police commissioners in charge of judicial affairs from the provinces attended in the event.
