19 March 2008 - Mr. Yash Ghai, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Human Rights in Cambodia (SRSG) presented his third report on the human rights situation in Cambodia to the Human Rights Council. The report was introduced by a brief statement by the SRSG. The report is based on the SRSG's observations and analysis since his appointment, and his last visit to the Kingdom in December 2007 and focuses on the rule of law in the country, efforts to address impunity for past human rights violations, via the ECCC, and recent ones, and the forthcoming elections (link to the report in English and Khmer).
 
The SRSG presentation was followed by a response from the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC), represented by HE Om Yentieng, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, and the Chief of the Diplomatic Mission of Cambodia in Geneva, HE Ambassador Sun Suon (link to RGC's statement) and an interactive dialogue during which several members states made comments, including Japan, the EU, Malaysia, the UK, the US and Sweden. Amnesty International and the International Federation for Human Rights also submitted statements.
