GENEVA (25 September 2015) – United Nations entities call on States to act urgently to end violence and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) adults, adolescents and children. OHCHR co-led the drafting of this first ever statement, which has been endorsed by twelve UN entities: ILO, OHCHR, UNAIDS, UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNODC, UN Women, WFP and WHO. The statement articulates three overarching aims based on the common work of the United Nations: protecting people from violence, supporting Member States to repeal discriminatory laws and policies, and combatting discrimination. The statement is available in all 6 UN languages here.
