04 April 2008 - The High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louise Arbour, has welcomed the news that Ecuador has become the 20th country to ratify the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. As a result of this ratification, the Convention will come into force in international law on 3 May 2008. Cambodia signed the Convention in October 2008 but has yet to follow through with its ratification. Cambodians can only benefit from the provision of the Convention when the treaty has been ratified - something the Government has promised to do as soon as possible.
