08 September 2008 - The United Nations Human Rights Council will today start its ninth session held at Geneva, Switzerland. During this session, the Human Rights Council will continue with its review of Special Procedures mandates, including the resolution on Cambodia, which defines the mandate of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for human rights in Cambodia. In reviewing the resolution, the Human Rights Council is expected to decide whether and in what form the mandate of the Special Representative should be extended. The mandate can be continued unchanged or in an amended form. This process is separate from the programme of the Cambodia Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, which operates under a Memorandum of Understanding for technical assistance with the Royal Government of Cambodia.
