07 March 2008 - In a statement issued to mark International Women's Day, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louise Arbour, said laws that discriminate against women are still in force in virtually every country in the world, and repeated promises by states to revise or repeal them are not being honoured. In 2006, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women issued recommendations on measures Cambodia needed to take to ensure equality between women and men, including law reform.
