Judicial roundtable discussion on aspects of the Code of Criminal Procedure in Battambang province20 February 2014 - OHCHR-Cambodia and the Ministry of Justice organized a roundtable discussion on the implementation of the Code of Criminal Procedure using promising practices from the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). The roundtable discussion was attended by 45 provincial legal and judicial professionals including judges, prosecutors, clerks and lawyers working on criminal cases from Battambang, Pailin and Banteay Meanchey provinces. The roundtable discussion provided opportunities for all participants to discuss the new form for pre-trial detention orders and to discuss the challenges they have faced in implementing the Code of Criminal Procedure and propose their recommendations for amendments to the Code. Similar judicial roundtable discussions have been organized by OHCHR-Cambodia and the Ministry of Justice since 2012 in Battambang, Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Cham, Siem Reap, Kratie, Mondulkiri, Stung Treng, Kampong Thom and Koh Kong provinces to allow current or former judicial officers at the ECCC to share their experience with their colleagues working in provincial courts across Cambodia.
