Prohibition and prevention of torture work shop at PURSAT22 January 2014 - OHCHR-Cambodia and the Chief Prosecutor of Pursat organized a training workshop on the Convention against Torture in Pursat province. The workshop was attended by 40 district and provincial judicial police officers, military police officers (gendarmes), prosecutors, judges, and court clerks from Pursat province. The workshop was an opportunity for all participants to gain legal knowledge and actively participate in discussions and exercises on the prohibition and prevention of torture and ill-treatment during police custody, safeguards against torture and ill-treatment for those deprived of their liberty, how to conduct investigations into acts of torture and ill-treatment leading to prosecutions. Similar training workshops have been organized by OHCHR-Cambodia since 2011 in Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey and Pailin provinces. Each training workshop is followed by joint visits by OHCHR-Cambodia and the Provincial Prosecution Office to district police stations to discuss practical implementation of the Convention against Torture at the field level.
