The UN Special Rapporteur on Cambodia meets the Prime Minister and senior officials15 January 2014 - The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia met today with Prime Minister Hun Sen, Deputy Prime Ministers Sok An and Hor Namhong, Senior Minister and President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee Om Yengtieng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Ith Sam Heng, Minister of Justice Ang Vong Vathana, Secretary of State of Ministry of Interior Prom Sokha and Governor of Phnom Penh Pa Socheat Vong to discuss a wide range of human rights issues in Cambodia, including the establishment of an independent national human rights institution, the 23 persons detained in relation to the protests of 2-4 January, the plans to overcome the political situation, the plans for fundamental reforms, including electoral and judicial reforms and combating corruption, the ban on demonstrations, and revision of the minimum wage. The meeting was frank, cordial and informative. The Special Rapporteur will issue a statement outlining the conclusions and recommendations of his visit at a press conference to be held at the OHCHR office on 16 January at 13:30.
