PHNOM PENH (31 March 2016) – In her statement to the media, Special Rapporteur Rhona Smith releases her end-of-mission statement with her preliminary findings following her visit to Cambodia. In her statement, she notes positive developments and efforts undertaken by the Government toward improving the human rights situation in the country, and the contrast with the deteriorating political situation and the need to strengthen the independence of the judiciary and protect fundamental freedoms. She also offers her recommendations to the Government of Cambodia pertaining to women's rights, indigenous rights, human rights education, and the general situation in the country.
