GENEVA (24 January 2017) – Today, the Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Cambodia, Prof. Rhona Smith, and the Chair of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD), Mr. Sètondji Roland Adjovi, called on the Cambodian authorities to release the "Adhoc 5," who were the subject of an urgent appeal jointly sent by several UN human rights mechanisms in May and of an opinion of the WGAD last November concluding that their detention is arbitrary. “They have been held hostage long enough, it's time for their release,” said the Special Rapporteur, with the endorsement of the WGAD Chair.
