GENEVA (14 September 2016) – In a statement delivered on behalf of 36 States (and three more added after the statement was read out), by the Representative of the United States to the UN Human Rights Council at its 33rd regular session, Ambassador Keith Harper expressed concerns “about the current escalation of political tensions in Cambodia, which threatens legitimate activities by opposition parties and human rights NGOs.” The statement called upon the government of Cambodia “to make their utmost efforts to create a political environment in which opposition parties and civil society can all function freely.” Read the full statement in English and in Khmer.
