PHNOM PENH – The Ministry of Justice and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Cambodia (OHCHR-Cambodia) are jointly organizing a National Conference on Reforming the Judiciary: Update and Outlook on Court Administration and Case Management. The event will take place on 17 and 18 December at the Mekong View Tower, with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
The objective of the National Conference is to promote increased understanding of the judicial reform process and its implementation, particularly the Law on the Organization and Functioning of the Courts. It will serve as a platform for the relevant stakeholders to discuss key issues related to court administration and case management. According to Wan-Hea Lee, OHCHR-Cambodia Representative, “the goal is to promote good functioning of the justice system. While that depends on more than this Law alone, the Law creates important new support structures that will enhance the ability of judges to adjudicate.”
The Conference will bring together court presidents, chief prosecutors and the chiefs of the new Administrative Secretariat from each court of first instance, as well as judges and prosecutors from the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, and other relevant stakeholders, including lawyers and donors.
