26 June 2011 - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay expressed concern over the continuing practice of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment in other countries despite the blanket ban. In her media statement on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture on 26 June, the UN human rights chief emphasized that "no circumstances, however exceptional, justify the use of torture against anyone for any reason".
