10 October 2012 – The Royal Government of Cambodia has the longest continuous period of abolition of the capital punishment in Asia since 1989 and is one of the only two countries in the ASEAN region to have banned the death penalty for all crimes, a pioneering move welcomed by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Cambodia.
