4 December 2012 - OHCHR Cambodia staff paid respects to the late King Father, Preah Karuna Preah Bat Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk Preah Mahaviraksat at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh. In her letter of condolence to the Government and people of Cambodia, High Commissioner Navi Pillay wrote of the King Father's 'sincerity, openness and genuine desire to pursue a harmonious path for Cambodia'.
 
She noted that 'the death of His Majesty the King Father will be particularly felt by the former and current staff of my Office in Cambodia, which had benefitted from His Majesty's strong and consistent support since its establishment in 1993.I am told that King Sihanouk spoke publicly in favour of the work of OHCHR-Cambodia on a number of occasions''. The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Cambodia, Professor Surya Prasad Subedi, had earlier paid his respects during his official mission to Cambodia.
