3 May 2013 - On the celebration of World Press Freedom Day 2013 in Cambodia, OHCHR Country Representative a.i. James Heenan called for concrete steps to address threats against media professionals, in particular physical attacks. He called for laws protecting reputations to be narrowly construed, journalists to be trained in their rights and in risk assessment techniques, negative societal attitudes to be addressed and, above all, impunity for crimes against journalists to end. "Impunity for crimes give a green light to others wishing to commit the same crimes," Heenan said in his speech at the event held in Phnom Penh. To read Heenan's speech, click English | Khmer.
